www.webcrawler.com

Though WebCrawler was live on the web on April 20 of 1994, this search engine was just known by me. According to its about documention, WebCrawler uses innovative metasearch technology to search the Internet's top search engines, including Google, Yahoo! Search, MSN Search, Ask Jeeves, About, Looksmart and more.

With one single click, WebCrawler searches the best results from the combined pool of the world's leading search engines -- instead of results from only one single search engine. And WebCrawler makes it easy to refine your search so you can find the most meaningful results right away. No wonder it's a leader in the search industry.

Try a search and see for yourself?

Jill Carroll, a Betrayal?

Jill Caroll's release s a great relief for all of those concerned her.

Amongh those, For Your Consideration said:  "I was elated when the news broke about US Journalist, Jill Carroll, being released after being held hostage in Iraq."

While Kristi thanked God "I think it's a God-given miracle Jill Carroll is back safely."

Ms. Carroll was kidnapped at gunpoint on Jan. 7 as she finished interviewing a prominent Sunni politician. Her kidnappers had threatened to kill her times. However, some excerpts from a NYT report seems not so positive on this kidnapped journalist:

In a videotape posted Thursday on the Internet, made before her release, Ms. Carroll denounced the American presence in Iraq and praised the insurgents fighting here. In the video, Ms. Carroll smiled, laughed once and gestured in a seemingly relaxed manner, saying she felt guilty about being released while so many Iraqis were still suffering.

Ms. Carroll, apparently knowing she would be released, denounced what she described as the "lies" told by the American government and predicted that the insurgents would defeat the Americans in Iraq. "I feel guilty. I also feel that it just shows that the mujahedeen are good people fighting an honorable fight, a good fight. While the Americans are here, the occupying forces, you know, treating the people in a very, very bad way. So I can't be happy totally for my freedom because there are people still suffering in prisons, in very difficult situations."

These kind words for her captors were a sharp contrast to her demeanor on the videotapes made shortly after her kidnapping, in which she appeared distraught, weeping and terrified. Ms. Carroll's seeming sympathy for her captors suggested either that she was pretending in hopes of gaining her release or that, after suffering weeks of extreme duress, she had fallen under the sway of her kidnappers.

Such reported caused some people wanna figure out what her price was!

Google Baby

This baby named KaiWen may be much more special compared to most of others, she is a blogger publishing daily updated news around her on BaBy tHougHt . BaBy taLk and Baby KaiWen's View in English and Chinese, respectively. Being Google Adesense's publisher, she was dubbed Google Baby after she made her first one hundred US Dollars, which has already been jealous by many other bloggers even including myself. Beyond that, she is a Coca Cola Ambassadress, a F1 fan (because she was born in a F1 family) and now a follower of 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany!

Besides, she has known the relationship between Moth and Butterfly, created her own toolbar with which you can get notified when receiving new e-mails to your POP3, Yahoo!, Gmail, or Hotmail accounts, once been a happiful "the third person" and toured Putrajaya International Conventional Centre (PICC) vicinity.

Baby Kaiwen, hope to see more fun brought by you! All the Best!

Fidel Castro Was dead?

Jawa Report first reported the rumor circulating in Spanish language papers  that Cuban Leader Fidel Castro was dead, but later it turns out a hoax.  Based on the update of that report, the remor was derived from an unorthodox rendering by Google's Language Tools on  an Argentina's paper. Excerpts provided by Jawa Report from a very rough Google translation on Argentinian Indymedia:

The dictator Fidel Castro dies in Havana.

May 29th, 10:22 P.M.

This afternoon, the Cuban dictator Fidel Castro died in his residence of the Laguito longevo .

According to sources officials the Cuban dictator I have not been castrating for some days was in delicate state of health after to have undergone a sudden infarct.

.....

Official sources of the government, the dictator's brother Raul Castro, and stops leaders of the regime have not even wanted to notify to the Cuban town, awaiting an international reaction.

It is almost sure that this is a serious joke because of an online service. Is it possilbe that Google would be boycotted by Cuba? At least now still unknown.

Malaysian News Agency Bernama's report says:

TI-M said Wednesday it was against the use of whipping as a method to curb corruption, adding that the penalty was an outdated method that did not have a place in modern society.

Its president, Tan Sri Ramon Navaratnam, said a more holistic, radical and long-term approach had to be adopted to eliminate the menace in society.

"Whipping is not the solution to corruption. If whipping is introduced to combat corruption, a lot of people would be whipped!" he said in a statement issued here.

Queue-up Device

As a native Chinese from China and now studying abroad, I am really feeling that some of our Chinese people once did have some indecent/ugly behavious such as random span and pissing wherever they travel. Maybe such ugly things may decrease sharply recent years. But now what qualities do they still lack of?

seems that the pictures taken by a blogger in China when travelling to Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan Province in the middle of this month tell us something. When you have a glimplse at the first picture, it is almost sure you, or even for myself, can't figure out what functionality of the round stainless steel circle without the author's explanation. It is a device to force the people to queue up in the ticket-hall of Zhengzhou Train Station! What a shame! This device can only let one person to purchase his/her tickets at the ticket couter. When mentioning the guy standing-by in his hands holding a tea cup, the author preferred him a discipline supervisor or a companion of someone in the queue-up rather than.....(pickpocket?).

My fellow nationals, when will you equip yourself with those basic morals of a civilised society?

Google’s Cache Function does not infringe any Copyright

Markenbusiness | rmb / juk

An American online author of seduction advice has failed in a copyright action brought against Google. Gordon Roy Parker had accused the search machine of saving his Internet site, as well as Usenet contributions, using the cache function on its servers and then later placing them at the disposal of third parties as search results.

Google’s cache functions acts like an intermediate memory, which could allow sites to be called-up even if they are no longer online directly . The court in Pennsylvania were of the opinion that the automatically-operating memory caused no copyright infringement. The news agency Reuters report that the judges considered the cache function to be a form of redistribution of data. Google operated as an Internet service, transmitting data to users, and in the meantime saved data for this purpose.

Google published Title Unknown blog post?

Google published Title Unknown blog post or repeatedly published blog posts they published before? It hears so ridiculous, isn't it? But from the screenshots shown the left side (click to see the enlarged and highlighted parts), it seems that they really did do! It is almost sure that Google Reader which was just added a new functionality encounters some bugs again, which demonstrates Philip Jensen of Blogoscoped has his genuine suggestion for Google-- Google, Get the Bugs Worked Out First.

These two pictures are just snapped when I use Google Reader to read Official Google Blog posts on my laptop and find some errors occured-- Pug-speak was actually published on 10/March/06, but it re-appeared in the Reader on 22/March and 24/March; there is also a title unknown post on 22/March. According to my RSS subcripiton using Firefox's Live bookmark, there are no abnormalities happening.

Are Google facing Peril?

Philip Jessen's view and suggestion on Google's ever continuous expansion:
Google’s biggest threat? It’s not Ballmer’s bluster. It’s not Semel’s visions of Hollywood grandeur. (Though you know he was digging Tomkat’s visit.) The biggest threat comes...from inside the Googleplex. If you start believing the hype...if you expand so much without paying attention to the things that got you there....you’re set up to fail. The Roman Empire tried expansion, and after awhile that didn’t work out.

Google, you should slow the pace and quit rolling out widgets (oops, that’s Yahoo, sorry) every other week, slapping a beta sticker on ’em to excuse the lack of functionality. The masses are now duped into thinking “they call everything a beta, so that’s OK.” No, it’s not. We put our trust in your TS, so we deserve a basic level of service. Everytime Gmail fails, everytime there’s a Bob who gets his many mails unanswered (has anyone ever got anything but a template response from tech support?), you lose a little more of your user base.
Goolge likes suggestion and feedback from its users. Will they take such suggestion seriously?

Ben Domenech Rebut

Ben Domenech, an editor at a sister publishing company to HUMAN EVENTS, was accused of plagiarism by several politics-sensitive leftist's blogs and resigned from washingtonpost.com's Red American (see posts here and here) after he received excessive profanity shown in above snips from Red America Ends. Now Domenech stikes back! He writes:

Red America, my new blog at washingtonpost.com, has been under attack since its launch. It is a conservative blog on a mainstream media site, so many of the attacks were expected. If one bothers to read it, I believe it stands as a welcome addition to the opinion debate.

The hate mail that I have received since the launch of this blog has been overwhelmingly profane and violent. My family has been threatened; my friends have been deluged; my phone has been prank called. The most recent email that showed up while writing this post talked about how the author would like to hack off my head, and wishes my mother had aborted me.

But in the course of accusing me of racism, homophobia, bigotry, and even (on one extensive Atrios thread) of having a sexual relationship with my mother, the leftists shifted their accusations to ones of plagiarism. You can find the major examples here: I link to this source only because I believe it's the only place that hasn't yet written about how they'd like to rape my sister. .......

Samsung Launches 32GB NAND Flash Solid State Disk

Samsung Electronics demonstrated on 21 March a notebook using the world's first 32-Gigabyte (GB) NAND flash-based solid state disk (SSD) at the Samsung Mobile Solution Forum 2006 in Taipei, Taiwan. This huge 32GB Flash-SSD, which acts as replacement to a traditional hard disk drive, is a state-of-the-art data storage medium ideal for notebooks and other mobile devices because weighs only half as much as a comparably-sized hard drive, uses just five percent of the electricity needed to power a hard disc drive and is noiseless. In addition, the Samsung Flash-SSD is free of any motor or other mechanical parts and uses instantly-accessible, non-moving NAND flash memory to read data three times faster and write data 1.5 times faster than a hard disk drive. Fish oils 'block prostate cancer'

A diet rich in a fat found in oily fish may protect men with prostate cancer from developing a more aggressive form of the disease, scientists have found.

Prostate cancer is much more likely to be life-threatening if tumour cells migrate and invade other tissues, such as the bone marrow.

Lab tests found omega-3 oil - present in fish like salmon - prevented this.

The results of the study, based at Manchester's Christie Hospital, are in the British Journal of Cancer.

The Paterson Institute researchers tested the effect of two types of dietary fat on prostate cancer cells in the lab.

Previous research has suggested omega-3 fats, which is also found in mackerel and fresh tuna, may help cut the risk of cancer - and other conditions, such as heart disease.

Omega-6 fats, found in vegetable oils, nuts and seeds, also play a key role in keeping us healthy.

Eating a diet with the right balance of omega-3 and omega-6 fats may well help to keep prostate cancer within the prostate gland

On Wednesday, March 22, 2006, Comedy Central suddenly switched out episodes of South Park -- replacing the previously-scheduled 'Trapped in the Closet' without any explanation. According to a friend of mine (secretary for a certain company that owns Comedy Central), Tom Cruise has blackmailed the company into not showing the episode, which portrays him as a homosexual and his religion (Scientology) as a cult.

Adsense Tips

Receiving an email sent by alex{at}plusdatings.com to Google Groups "Adsense Publishers" Group titled AdSense optimization tips for blogs, I feel it quite worthy. I'd like to share those four tips with everybody:

I. First of all when starting to optimize a blog you must be familiar with HTML, PHP, CSS and how to manipulate the scripts you are using for blog publishing. Without knowing this, you will not be able to make things move the way you want. If you are not experienced web developer
try to hire a pro.

II. Do not put the ads to flood your page. This will make your visitors to close the pages, and you will lose more than you can win. Try to make your pages look clean and easy to read.

III. Test diferent styles, sizes, and colors for your ads. From my experience when you blend the ads with the content you will have more results. In these days the internet is saturated with banners, pop-ups, and other type of advertising. Most of the users don't like this. To make them click on the ads you must blend the ads with your content.

IV. Try to make ORIGINAL articles and posts. This will make your visitors come back.

There is also a hypelink in the mail.

A Parental Advice Internet Site Sues Google

Kinderstart.com, a parent advice website filed a lawsuit against Google recently over its lower page ranking on the search engine. Snips from Reuters:

A parental advice Internet site has sued Google Inc., charging it unfairly deprived the company of customers by downgrading its search-result ranking without reason or warning.

The lawsuit notes that rival search systems from Microsoft Corp.'s MSN and Yahoo Inc. feature Kinderstart.com at the top of their rankings when the name "Kinderstart" is typed in.

The complaint accuses Google, as the dominant provider of Web searches, of violating KinderStart's constitutional right to free speech by blocking search engine results showing Web site content and other communications.

The suit was filed the same day a federal judge denied a U.S. government request that Google be ordered to hand over a sample of keywords customers use to search the Internet while requiring the company to produce some Web addresses indexed in its system.

Wang once suggested the billionaire to "punish" Liu Han who was accused of manipulating a broker to cause his company to lose nearly 100 million yuan in Sichuan Province by Yuan. Contract killer Li Haiyang missed shooting Liu to death in 1997. However, since then Wang repeatedly require money from Yuan and threatened to blow the whistle on his crime of organizing the attempted murder, which resulted in his own murdering by Yuan's complices later.

Within six months, he made more than 2 million yuan (US$249,000) of profits. Then he invested in the securities and bonds markets before acquiring more than 60 companies. His assets were valued at more than 3 billion yuan as of 1996.

All lives are equal and invaluable under the umbrella of the law, no more money can save Yuan's life which is priced at the handsome sum of 49.5 billion yuan (US$6 billion).

Kaifu Lee’s Beijing Cuisines

As I promised earlier, I finished translating Dr. Lee's Beijing Cuisines at Google China Blog. I thought his article is quite interesting, noteworthy of being read by not only Chinese-savvy readers, but also their non-Chinese speaking counterparts. As Dr. Lee also mentioned in his post --Google's mission is to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful, that's why I rendered his post from Chinese to English--let the readers all over the world to know something happening in Google China. I think, once one completes reading my English post, most of them will be envy Google's Welfare for its employees--"Acquiring a person's stomach is to acquire his heart"!

Google is always famous for its tasty food. Two classical Chinese proverbs, regardless of "the food is what matters to the people" or "Acquiring a person's stomach is to acquire his heart", both fully conforms to the Google Culture. Back in China— the world's most delicate food heaven, we must carry forward well this traditional gourmets culture.

Speaking of gourmets, I am very embarrassed because I am a gormandizer among Google gourmets. When I was staying in California, my colleagues dare not consult with me about where we could go for a meal, because the place I suggested was basically either far away or difficult to be found. Last time, two of them let me propose that, we drove nearly an hour to eat the sauce braised fish head, after having those tasty dishes served first, we could not instead eat up the fish head which was complained a lot by me. While those two still gluttonized it while neglecting my complaining. Anyway, I already began telling of how to making “Chili Oil Won Ton” before we left the restaurant, which they felt so unbelievable! Then living in Seattle, I used to drive cross-border for three hours to the Vancouver to stay one night on weekends. Afterwards, my friends might ask what I have done, my answer is very simple: eating, digesting, eating again, digesting again, eating again, then going back home. No famous cuisines in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Taibei, California Bay Area, New York, Vancouver and Seattle are not known by me!

Then how about Beijing? Doesn’t Google China really wanna hire the Master Chef? Yes, of course, Google does do. Once the Master Chef is found, we employees at Google may have the most delicious food without having to go outside. In the past several months we temporarily based in CBD, now we has moved the temporary work place in S &T Garden of Tsinghua University, but the company’s cafeteria is yet to be constructed. How can we do? Google feels very sorry for its talented staffs, we therefore drew up a regulation during this transition period—everyday everybody can go to the restaurant to have the meal, Google pays the bills. That’s why I took the full advantage of this regulation and got the opportunities to taste so many delicious cuisines in Beijing. Now, in order to respond Google’s mission “organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful", I am providing here with the information congregated from my personal eating experiences in the multitudinous Beijing restaurants:

• NO.1 Chang An (长安一号)- a small cafe inside Beijing Grand Hyatt Hotel. If someone hadn’t reserved the seat in advance, there must be no free seat available. Here roasted Beijing ducks are extremely delicious with skins being fragrant and crisp; pancakes are thin and soft. Stuffed dumplings, pot-stickers both are also very nice. Certainly, their sesame seed cakes clamping foie gras and plum sauce must be tasted.

• Heron-Heron Wineshop (鹭鹭酒家) – the Beijing branch of a Shanghai restaurant. Although they acknowledged their dishes are a little of Beijing flavors, but still quite Shanghai featuring. The best serve here is fried lunar-new-year's cake with Chinese mitten crab (other lunar-new- year's cakes are also ok, but must be hand-made and very thick). Sweet and sour spareribs, vegetable-stuffed steamed buns, thick bread and so on are also good.

• Cafeteria of Sichuan Agency in Beijing (四川驻京办事处餐厅)– Beijing’s most typical Sichuan cuisines, all of its recipes are very delicious, but just unusual hemp and spicy. If someone could not eat spicily, he will not be able to have the good fortune to enjoy something. Business is very good and must reserved first.

• Lugang Small Town (鹿港小镇) – Beijing’s best Taiwan recipes. Three Cup Chicken, Sausages are very tasty.

• Smart Chiangnan (俏江南)– Tough it is chain-like, but its "new-style-Sichuan-cuisines" is quite special. Other famous recipes includes: Lake-stone rolling beef (Jiang Shi Gun Fei Niu), pig elbow, sweet peas, re-cooked fish, naked oats with sesame jam and so on.

• Famous Porch (明轩楼) – a Shanghai-featuring restaurant situated the 31st floor of New Century Hotel. Very native but expensive. Fermented glutinous rice rockfish, foie gras, sheet-iron pig neck meat and Chinese-style beefsteak are all delicious.

• Big-House Gate (大宅门)-- though the food is not specially prominent, the performance is the most appreciated by our foreign colleagues (Sichuan Faces, Shouldering Against Cylinder). Very fragrant and thick fish soup, cold dish with wild herbs folded to the pyramid-shape are nice. Fried sweet-potato putty is very well too.

• Big Dong (大董)--Famous for the roasted ducks. If to entertain distinguished guests, may try the rice with cod, or the noodle with lobster. Both two are very special.

• Li Chang (黎昌) – To introduce recipes must introduce Cantonese cuisines. Li Chang is the best Cantonese cuisines in Beijing, but truly speaking, it was compromised a lot when compared to the orthodox Hong Kong counterparts.

• East Sea (东海)—Guangdong-style tea-drinkings of East Sea cannot compete with those of Hong Kong, but they are of good qualities yet with a low-price, normally just cost a bit more than 20 Yuan.

• Friday Dining Room (TGIFriday' s, 星期五餐厅) -- I like having the Chinese meal, but my children require that I have to enlist TGIF they like the most. Roasted pig spareribs there are truly nice, some appetizers are worth being tasted.

Instant food and sweet snacks: Japanese-style hand-pulled noodles of Thousand-Tastes (Wei Qian), Chinese-style instant food of Da Cheng which accomplishes via imitating Yonghe (the pupil surpasses the teacher) (beef noodles very good), Kentuckey's Portuguese-style egg flogs (every time I go there and buy a dozen, which are to finished by the whole family within two days), Bread of the Pacific Department Store and Soaked lotus in the first floor of the Eastern Square.

The followings are several of the restaurants which are my colleague Guo Quji recommends, and I ‘d like to share them with you all:

• Yuelu Mountain House (岳麓山屋) – Yuelu Mountain House at Houhai is Hunan cuisines as the name suggests (Yuelu normally refers to Changsha, the capital of Hunan Province), the most characteristic is the sauce pepper fish head, served together with noodles, after the fish head is eaten up, noodles are mingled with the soup left, and tasted micro spicy but delicious. Hand-ripped garlic shoots (garlic liver moss) in the cold dish, is extremely tasty and refreshing. With regarding to the drinkings, the rice wine is very nice.

Tea-Horse Ancient Road (茶马古道) – Yunnan cuisine in the SOHO modern city. To my own viewpoint, the most delicious is its fungus hot-pots (steam-bowls). Soups made up from with numerous kinds of Yunnan's wild fungus, are extremely tasty. The best funguses are probably Pine Mushroom and Bamboo Sheng.

• Su Zhehui (苏浙汇 )– it is located at Chaoyang District. Its honey-ham made up from very good ham with honey and husked lotus, has the perfect salty-sweet and fragrance-delicacy combination and is thus very tasty. In addition, yellow-bridge sesame seed cake (Huang Qiao Shao Bing) among the snacks is worth being tasted.

• Nanjing Grand Restaurant (南京大饭店) – A cafeteria of Agency of Nanjing City Government in Beijing behind the Wangfujing Department Store, seldom has been known. Actually its salty wild duck and steamed lion heads (pork balls) are well done, and shrimp-heptacreas bean curd is also very specially (other restaurants usually have crab-heptopancreas/ovary bean curd).

• Danieli's – an Italian restaurant in International Club Hotel, food are good and there are also many choices. The noodle with lobster is espeicially the recommendation!

It has been several months since I moved to Beijing. I already put on the weight of around 4 kilogram . If you have the healthy cuisines with low calories, don’t hesitate to introduce them to me! :)

i-Newswire punished by Google

i-Newswire, who published a press release (click here to see a screenshot) saying a 15-year-boy was hired by Google, was punished and removed as a source for the automated news service by Google News, according to numuerous sources (Inside Google, SEW, IW). The boy himself wanna to fool Google's News service and making such ripplings already appologized for Google. His post reads:

It all begun a few days ago.

I was looking around on http://digg.com, and came across an interesting submission showing how to fool google's news system. Me being the curious person I am, read the article and proceeded to try it. Anyone who knows me in real life knows that I am the biggest google fanboy ever. I mean hell, I even dressed up as Larry Page (Google him :) for halloween. Wanting to fool a few friends, I submitted an article using the method that was provided. I entered my email (tom.vendetta@gmail.com, go ahead spam it... ). I never got any email from the news website, so I figured it never went through. I used all fake information and forgot about it. It wasnt until around 10:35 pm that I received an instant message from MAKEBot ( a bot that sends the latest digg posts ) what did I see? "Google Hires 15 year old". At that moment, i felt my stomach knot up and my heart drop. I knew exactly what happened and knew that I would end up regretting posting that. I am now truley regretting it. My gmail account now has 130 unread email messages, as opposed to the 5 i normally get daily. My myspace has tons of friends requests, as opposed to the 3 i get monthly. This is all going out of control and I am regretting every bit of it.

To all the digg users, I am sorry for making you think this was true. I never intended for it to be submitted. I never intended for anyone besides my friends to find it.

To google, I am sorry for making a false claim and I can only hope that this will help resolve the bug, so that no one else does something like I did, because they will end up regretting it, as I am now.

I geuss all my dreams and hopes of getting a job at Google have officially been demolished.

I geuss everything else has been demolished. I just tryed signing onto my aim screename, and geuss what? I got so many messages it crashed aim.exe. GREAT!

To wrap things up:

I AM SORRY.

Thank you for listening , and I truley do apologize.
