Motherland Warns Poisonous Dragon Boat Dumplings

The glutinous rice dumplings, or "zongzi," are wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves and shaped like pyramids, but some unscrupulous manufacturers are using copper-based chemicals to keep the leaves green.

"The leaves dyed by copper sulphate or copper chloride contain metal elements which will penetrate into the zongzi and cause great damage to the health," food expert Shen Xiangkun was quoted as saying, backing a warning by the China Consumer Association.

"The worst zongzi contained 34 times more copper than the national standard!"
Something shy as a native Chinese living overseas with routine intergrity always heard bad food safty news from the mother land!

Real Estate Project

Previously I could be invited to share family inheritance funds by Mrs. Florence Camra who claimed to be the only daugther of the later Major General of Mali. Now Real Extate Project are waiting for me, :(
Dear Friend,

Before I proceed, may I humbly introduce myself to your good self. My name is Mrs.Mariam Ponde, a Sierra Leonian refugee in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. My late husband was until recently, one of the personal aides to the president Ahmed Kabba of Sierra Leone.

But since after the death of my husband, my family has been subjected to various forms of humiliation ranging from freezing of my husband's foreign assets and bank accounts to other forms of public shame and ridicule.

However before his death, my husband was able to safeguard with a very good diplomatic contact in Ghana funds amounting to US$9.8m (Nine Point Eight Milion United States Dollars). The funds were originally gotten from royalties accruing to my husband as the government representative of the Western Region Gold and Diamond Mining Operations.

I have decided to contact you because I am interested in investing this funds in your country which is investment friendly.

In view of your participation, I am ready to give you a good negotiable percentage for your assistance, or better still commit the fund into viable Joint Venture Projects with you.

Be assured that you stand no risk of any kind as the funds belong to me only as contained in my late husband's will. As soon as I get your consent, we will quickly move this fund to your country and finally move my family over there as well .

If this proposal appeals to you, kindly give me your urgent response.

Thanks in anticipation of your kind cooperation

Best Regards,

James for Mother

Reggae & Hip Hop to Feature Paris Hilton's New Album

AP quoted a Hong Kong magazine to report:
Paris Hilton says her upcoming album will be a mix of reggae, pop and hip-hop, with the first single being a reggae song called "Stars Are Blind."

Hilton will also do a remake of the Rod Stewart song "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?," she was quoted as saying in the June issue of Hong Kong magazine Prestige.

"The whole album has so much different music on it. I like all music. It's not like I only like pop or only rock. I want to have something for everybody," Hilton said.

Hilton said she wrote the lyrics to seven of her songs. The article didn't say how many songs are on the album.

"I have always had a voice and always known I could sing, but I was too shy to let it come out. I think that is the hardest thing you can do, to sing in front of people. When I finally let go and did it, I realized it is what I am most talented at and what I love to do the most," Hilton said.
Will her album be successful as it seems that she is much more famous in other aspects? Anyway, Just A Bless !

Possible Haditha Killings

Though previously I don't think US Army in Iraq so cold-blooded, but Haditha incident does imply that some of them might do something cruel:
Killings began after Marine slain

Pentagon sources said the killings began after a roadside bomb killed 20-year-old Lance Cpl. Miguel Terrazas at 7:15 a.m. on November 19 in Haditha, a city along the Euphrates River in western Iraq.

The Marines originally reported that 15 civilians also died in that blast.

But according to the Pentagon sources' account, the Marines immediately suspected four Iraqi teenagers in a taxi and shot them, along with the driver, when the Marines said they failed to lie on the ground as ordered.

The hunt for the bombers then moved to a nearby house, where seven people -- including two women and children -- were killed. Then eight people, including six women, were shot next door, while women in a third house were not harmed, the sources said. In a fourth house, four men were killed.

Rep. John Murtha, appearing Sunday on ABC's "This Week," alleged a cover-up and said the fallout could be "worse than Abu Ghraib."

Angelina Jolie Gave Birth to Baby Girl Shiloh Nouvel

Publicist Cindy Guagenti of Brad Pitt (husband of the Oscar-winning Angelina Jolie for supporting role in 1999's "Girl, Interrupted") said in a statement:
"The night of May 27, 2006 in Namibia, Africa, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt welcomed their daughter Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt. No further information is being given!"
Paparazzi have no way to photograph the Jolie-Pitt family during this time's delievery, according to AP report :
Jolie and Pitt had powerful help protecting their privacy from the government of Namibia, which refused to grant entry to reporters seeking to cover the birth without the actors' written permission. The government arrested photographers, confiscated film, ringed the couple's hotel with heavy security and set up large green barriers on the beach to shield their family.

Country girls and elderly woman spread a straw mat on the ground for fulling cloth by pounding it out.

From the website:
A set of rare photos showing the way ordinary Koreans lived at the beginning of the 20th century has been made public. The University of Southern California’s library website features some 150 pictures taken by the Rev. Corwin Taylor and his wife Nellie Blood-Taylor, who worked as missionaries in Korea from 1908 through 1922. The pictures have been put through a precision digital restoration process by the Korean Studies library, and some have been color-tinted.

Teenagers Failing to Extort MySpace

Shaun Harrison, 18, and Saverio Mondelli, 19, of Suffolk County, N.Y. allegedly hacked into the social networking site and stole personal information from MySpace users.

After MySpace booted them from the site, the pair threatened to distribute a foolproof method for stealing information unless MySpace paid them $150,000, said Sandi Gibbons, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County district attorney's office.

Mondelli and Harrison were arrested Friday when they traveled to Los Angeles to allegedly collect the payoff. Instead, they were taken into custody by undercover officers from the multi-agency electronic crimes task force who posed as MySpace employees.

Google Plans Video Ad Service

The Internet search giant today plans to introduce a system for running
TV-style commercials as it tries to capitalize on a fast-growing
segment of online advertising.

Entertainment companies such as 20th Century Fox and Paramount Classics have been testing the service with trailers for TV show DVDs and film releases, and General Motors Corp. has been promoting its Pontiac G6.

The commercials will appear as static Web ads, but with a small video player. Clicking the play button will start the video playing in the ad box. An advertiser won't pay for the ad unless the viewer clicks through to its website. If consumers fail to click on the ad, Google's system will replace it with another, more relevant ad.
Google has leaped a great step towards lowering its risk of relying majorly on revenues originating from contextual advertisments.

Link

Update: Google announced here and put a post there with saying that the video ads are to be shown in one of the three ad formats: 300x250 Medium Rectangle, 336x280 Large Rectangle, or 250x250 Square for adsense publisher.

Madonna Beginning Her Confession Tours

The singer determined to shock in her first world tour in two years which started in Los Angeles on Sunday!
Madonna made her entrance lowered from the ceiling in a giant disco ball. Outfitted in dominatrix-like riding gear, she sang her new song "Future Lovers" accompanied by shirtless male dancers with ball gags in their mouths.

During "Live to Tell," she wore a crown of thorns and hung from a giant mirrored cross as video screens showed scenes of third-world poverty.

Another video montage mixed images of Bush and Tony Blair with footage of Adolf Hitler and Osama bin Laden. Midway through the new song "I Love New York," she cracked a joke about Bush and oral sex.

Porcelain Pigs Deemed to Offend Muslims

Oh this is a quite old yet somewhat weird story happened in 1998 in England. A woman from Leicester collecting porcelain pigs placed them her house's window sill and was complained by local Musilms who believed that those pigs offensive.
"I just couldn't believe it, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry," Mrs Nancy Bennett, the owner of the 17 miniature pigs, told the Sun tabloid newspaper.

The porcelain figures were held at the local police station, while Mrs Bennett was threatened with prosecution if she replaces the collection. Her house is located in the same street as the city's main mosque, meaning that Muslim worshippers often passed by her front window where the pig figurines were on display.

Good Advices for FIFA WORLD CUP 2006 Fans Travelling to Berlin

Travel Channel of UK also offers 5 good and sincere suggestions for any fans who are going to watch the football match on the spot:
1.The best way to get around during the World Cup tournament is by public transport. Buy yourself a WelcomeCard from just €16 for 2 days. This gives you and three children under the age of 14 unlimited travel on all Berlin's public transport AND it also gives you 50% off lots of major tourist attractions.

2.If you're lucky enough to be the proud owner of a World Cup ticket then don’t forget it gives you FREE access to all of Berlin's public transport throughout the tournament.

3.Even if you don't have match tickets there are plenty of places you can watch the games on giant screens free of charge. My favourite is the Sony Centre at Potsdamer Platz where you'll not only have a great view but there are plenty of places to get a beer and a currywurst!

4.Do NOT buy World Cup tickets from ticket touts. Not only will you end up paying a small fortune but the Olympic Stadium's new electronic ticketing system means you won't get in unless you are the original purchaser of the ticket!

5.During the World Cup the Olympic Stadium WILL NOT be open for tourist visits so if you’re desperate to see where it all happens time your trip accordingly.
See also their nice introductory video about Berlin on Google Video.

New Korean W10,000 Note

The anti-forgery features improved note was revealed by South Korea's central bank earlier today and to be circulated since 1 Jan, 2007.
It is 13 mm shorter across and 8 mm shorter vertically than the current note. The portrait of King Sejong seated remains on the front.

The background image is a traditional Korean drawing of the sun, moon and five mountain peaks with pine trees and waterfalls believed to underscore the authority of the king. Some of the lyrics from "Yong-bi-eo-cheon-ga (Songs of Dragons Flying to Heaven)" are shown atop the window pattern background. On the back is a Chosun Dynasty map of the heavens (National Treasure no. 228) with a device for charting the night sky called a "Honcheonui."

It is green like the current bills but the color is brighter. A hologram shows different patterns -- a map of the Korean Peninsula, the Yin-Yang symbol, the I Ching trigrams found on the flag and the face value -- at different angles.

RFID Tags to Detect Animal's Estrus

we make the money not art writes:
Researchers of the INRA in Montpellier (France) have devised a method that uses RFID tag to detect when female mammals are in heat.

A tag is injected under the skin of the female sheep. The male is equipped with a tag reader that reads and registers the tag number of the female animals that welcome "sexual intercourses". The data is then wirelessly transmitted to be analysed by the cattle owners. The system would enable a better management of artificial insimination in cattle.
With this modern technology, it is even easier to accurately predict animal birth! Link

Korea Researcher Developed Rice Beer

Hoohoo, it is quite refreshing news that tax researcher of National Tax Service have developed rice beer formula in South Korea !
Yet it took more than a year to perfect the rice beer because the
composition of rice is quite different from barley, the main ingredient
in ordinary beer. Rice beer goes through the same process as barley
beer and also forms bubbles just like the real thing. But the color is
lighter and the taste different. A staffer at the center said that the
brew combines the bitterness of barley beer with the mellow favor of
rice.
When Korea will export this rice beer, I wanna one! :-P Link

Most Intact Moche Female Mummy Found

Peruvian and US archaeologists discovered a well-preserved mummy from the pre-columbian Moche civilization at the ancient site of El Brujo on the coast of northern Peru, near Trujillo. Jugged from the special burial items, the mummy partially tatooed might once have been a queen.
Her body was wrapped in hundreds of meters (yards) of cotton cloth, and near where it was found lay the skeleton of a youth offered in sacrifice with a rope still around its neck.

Jewelry made of semi-precious gemstones and fine gold was also found at the site, as were other objects like gold sewing needles and raw cotton.

The archaeologists were surprised to find buried with the mummy two ceremonial war clubs and 23 spear throwing implements, normally found only in the graves of Moche men.

"Perhaps she was a female warrior, or maybe the war clubs and spear throwers were symbols of power that were funeral gifts from men," said John Verano, a physical anthropologist from Tulane University in the United States.

Ad Agency Interviewed For Joga Bonito's Campaign

It seems that Journarist Jeff Beer in Canadia's Dose doesn't like Nike's Joga Bonito Ad Cmpaign,
we checked out www.nikefootball.com and found a slew of sick videos showing some of soccer’s worldwide stars showing off their chops.
But he still managed to reach and interview Canadian Mark Hunter, who cooperated with the Wieden+Kennedy/Amsterdam ad agency to stage up the global Nike's ad movement.
Q:What’s the idea behind this campaign?

A:We wanted to do something that felt real and sort of small and humble in a way. For people who follow the game, it’s gone in a way that perhaps hockey was before the lockout — just that there’s some of the purity missing. There are more fights and racism, while s alaries and egos have gotten out of control. So, Nike said instead of just doing ads with a bunch of their stars in it, they wanted to take a stand. It’s weird because it is advertising, but hundreds of millions of people see these things so it’s interesting to take a stand and see if people respond. They just said, what if we promote beautiful football?

The players Nike supports tend to be players who are passionate, very creative and play with flair. So, what they did was break the idea of Joga Bonito into five elements. We called them joy, team, skill, heart and honour. The hope is that a kid will see these ads wit h some of the greatest players in the world and realize that what makes Ronaldinho great, for example, is that he turns up every day and plays like he loves it. We wanted to show these superstars playing in a way that a kid could actually emulate rather than saying, “Wouldn’t it be crazy to get some of the best players in the world together and do something crazy on a skyscraper rooftop?”

Q:What made you choose Eric Cantona as the spokesperson?

A: He’s fairly controversial, being a notoriously aggressive player who has been involved in some questionable moments. But, essentially, the thinking was that maybe Nike could start a movement, a movement that would support beautiful football. Eric is just a larger-than-life character who certainly played with passion. So, he became our figurehead who would deliver our message.

Q:How did you apply the five elements to the Nike players?

A: It was fairly natural, actually. Wayne Rooney, for heart, is this street-fighting kid who is just always up for it. Ronaldinho is known for that smile, so joy was easy. Honour was a tougher one, but Thierry’s known as an inspirational player who plays honorably. For skills, we picked two flashy players in Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Team is, of course, Brazil. There is quite a Brazilian bent to all this, right down to the slogan. It’s just a big advertising campaign at the end of the day, but it’s fun and it feels like it means something.
After watching numerous JogaTV videos, I am feeling Joga Bonito a great idea to spread/instigate football skills among the youth!

Vatican Cardinals Lambasted Da Vinci Code Movie

The fact that Da Vinci Code trying to reveal Jesus had a child with Mary Magdalene and that the Opus Dei Catholic organization as a secret association whose members will not hesitate to murder in order to reach their goals, is the centered issue scorned by Vatican.

Cardinal Paul Poupard, the No. 2 on cultural issues after Pope Benedict told Fance's Europe 1 Radio:
“This is a shocking and worrying cultural phenomenon that reflects, on the one hand, the ignorance of millions of people and, on the other, the voluptuous pleasure the media take in promoting products that have nothing to do with the truth.”
In the same time, he complained the media showed no interest in a Dictionary of Religions he edited.
“If a product that mixes up claims made as fact, fiction and so on, and
comes out with elucubrations that have no relation to history, the whole world’s media promote it.”
Responding to the question if movie viewers should boycott Tom Hanks and Audrey Tautou starring film, he didn't object to people watching the movie with saying:
“If it is clear this has nothing to do with truth and it amuses you to go see it, why not?”
The Da Vinci Code movie is going to the first time to officially hit the screen for 2006 Cannes International Film Festival grand opening scheduled on May 17.

Japanese Astronaut's Special Lightweight Space Shoes

Considering conventional sports shoes can hurt astronauts' feet in outer space, Japanese shoe maker Asics Corp. partered with JAEA developed lightweight sneakers designed specially for Japanese astronaut Takao Doi, who will join a US space shuttle mission in late 2007.
"In an environment of no gravity, human muscles become atrophied and astronauts need to train themselves on machines," said Takehiro Tagawa, who developed the far-out footwear.

The first samples, with a soft heel and flexible sole, weigh only 130 grams (4.6 ounces) each and incline slightly upward toward the toes.

"By having the slant, the shoes would stretch a wearer's calf muscles even in the no-gravity environment," Tagawa said.

They also include a gap dividing the big toe from the others, similar to traditional Japanese socks known as tabi which are often worn with sandals.

"The divider makes it easier to stand firm," he said.

Adsense Dissent?

Steve Sabludowsky writes
From a publisher’s standpoint, the nickels and dimes we get for the incredible space we give up on our websites is patently unfair. In a good advertising market, it is much more lucrative to lavish our pages with real ads than to allow Google Ads to make billions and for the publishers to get next to zilch.

There will be a sea change. Google will be forced to change its revenue sharing model or else you won’t see those Google ads on our published pages. Certainly not on mine.
But I think Google does provide adsense account application for business users, so why don't the publishers go to participate this programm? Sure they will make some if not most revenues just taking advantage of their bulk context information. In the fact, I noticed some agencies already did, like Malaysia's most distributed theStar newspaper.

Beethoven's Hair to Be Made into Diamonds

It hears like weird, but it's ture. It is a good memorial for a great composer. Because in the end, the diamonds will be sold at auction to raise money for military families in USA:
LifeGem Memorials, a company that first gained attention in 2002 by making diamonds out of the carbon from cremated human remains, now says it can make diamonds out of human hair, allowing people to bury their loved ones but still have a memento they can carry with them.

To publicize this -- and to raise money for charity -- the company has teamed with John Reznikoff, who is in the Guinness Book of World Records for having the largest and most valuable collection of celebrity hair.

Reznikoff is giving six to 10 strands of Beethoven's hair to LifeGem, which will use it in a process to create three diamonds of between 0.5 and 1 carat in weight.

Greg Herro, chief executive officer of LifeGem, said the diamonds will initially be put on a worldwide tour of museums and opera houses for about half a year as the company tries to gain attention for its ability to make diamonds from hair.

Heart-Shaped Potato

So rare a special potato, no wonder its discover called it a message from God!
Ellen Anderson said when she opened a bag of potatoes she purchased from a stand on North Main Street, she found the heart-shaped spud at the bottom of the bag.

"Only one person could make this potato like this, and that's God," Anderson said.

Anderson said she does not plan to eat the potato.

"I will never eat this potato," Anderson said. "Nobody else will ever eat it."

She said she plans to keep the potato in a safe place.
Even in a safe place, it is still sure that some days later it still will get rotten, then how? It would not be a bad idea to donate it to the mesuem to collect. Link

the Albino Code

It is a parody of Dan Brown's The #1 Worldwide Phenomenon -  the Da Vinci Code, written by Dennis Hurley, an albino actor. Though he really is  an "evil albino", to his somewhat disappointment, he failed to be chosen to play Silas's role by director Ron Howard in the film.
Admittedly, I did try my best to audition for the role of Silas, not to further the stereotype, but to bring my own sense of realism to the role (not to mention, landing a part in a Ron Howard film would have been a pretty big break for a struggling actor). Of course, that plum of a role went to Paul Bettany (A Beautiful Mind, Wimbledon) a non-albino from Brooklyn.

So, instead of complaining endlessly, I wrote a short film parody, entitled The Albino Code, with the following premise: "What if the story of The Da Vinci Code could be told from Silas's point of view? And what if Silas were an actual person with albinism thrust into a world of secret codes, mystery, and assassination?"
