'Bottomless' Pit on Mars

bottomless pit on marsOn 8 August 2007,  NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter using the HiRISE HiRISE camera (High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment) snapped this stunning picture which shows an originally thought bottomless cavern was actually a pit , with at least 70 meters deep. Scientists hope this kind of pits could provide shelter for future human visitors to Mars . Source: Newscientist
