Edmund Fitzgerald was a lake freighter that sank suddenly during a gale storm on Lake Superior in Canadian waters on November 10, 1975. 
Gordon Lightfoot's hit song, "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" (video below), helped make the incident the most famous disaster in the history of Great Lakes shipping. Recently, Joe Rasch, a vacation-goer and his family believed to have found a life ring from the Edmund Fitzgerald roughly 200 miles from where the famed ship sank 32 years ago.
